About this workshop

Become the dance partner everyone loves to dance with.

Fluid Partnering and Contact Improvisation Workshop #2 — Be a Better Partner Masterclass Series.

Mid level lifts are great for breaking stereotypes in lifting. Pelvis to pelvis connection brings a lot of stability and softness to the moves. You are not lifting from muscle strength but using your skeleton structure.

What you will learn

... and more!!!

Placing your center correctly, so it can float on the other is a fundamental for all lifts. Here it is important to understand the shifting of your weight, by lowering first underneath your partners' center and then taking it into space with you.

Workshop Format

You will learn practical techniques to safely integrate hip level lifts in improvisation and flows.

1. Understand the principles

2. Warm-Up Movement Patterns

We start with a warm-up introducing you to movement patterns that will help you for flying and basing in hip-level

3. Drills & Controlled Setting

To feel and refine the techniques of most hip level lifts in a controlled setting without too many variables at once. Here I will give a lot of detailed corrections and help you get correct muscle memory.

Drills & Principles

  • Falling / Off Axis Practice
  • Center Placement and Transition
  • Entrance/Exits
  • Closed vs. Open Positions
4. Exploration in a Flow

After each drill we will go a step further to integrate this idea in a short flow.

5. Lifts & Sequenced Elements

Learn specific lifts that are related to the drills and practice like a choreography that starts connecting elements.

6. Improvisation Task

Include what you learned into a real open setting, how can you give cues, listen and adjust in the moment that is not choreographed or planned.

Elke’s partnering class is a practice of communication – listening, responding, and staying present with what’s moving inside and around me. It’s strengthened my technique, expanded my movement vocabulary, and opened up new creativity and resilience. I’ve also learned to find more ease in partnership and stay grounded in the unknown. It’s changed not only how I dance, but how I move through the world. So so grateful for the work you do! Thank you Elke

Kristina J.

Elke meets everyone at their own level. I started out as a complete beginner with partnering and contact tools, but Elke made me feel like I could learn. She demonstrates and explains the techniques in a light-hearted and playful way. Since then, I have been learning in a very enjoyable and challenging way, in a good manner of course.
Thank you so much –  for your inspiration and patience! <3

Elke is not only a very skilled dancer but also a gifted teacher who knows how to guide with clarity and care. Her energy is uplifting and creates a warm, welcoming atmosphere. I always leave her classes feeling inspired!

I can't make it to the workshop anymore, what can I do?

Until two weeks in advance to the workshop you can cancel, and get 50% refund. After that no refund is possible. You can always join the next workshop that is happening if you can not attend. Please let me know via e-mail.

Do I need to come with a partner?

No, you don't have to. We will mix and match with different people in class. It is important and helpful to learn from each other and work with different bodies.

I will try to match levels in the exercises where it matters.
If you are training with a specific person you can of course come together, still I recommend to switch partners for some exercises and experience the techniques and elements with different people.
